My
name is Andrew Brown. I'm 22 years old and I just graduated from
college at the University
of Vermont. I sat down to think about all the things
I could do with my time seeing as I do not have to return school
in the fall. I wanted to do something extraordinary and important
to myself, something that I would remember forever, something that
I would be proud of, and something that would also help other people.
I have always loved biking long distances and it has been a dream
to sometime ride my bike across the United States. This dream gives
me an opportunity to setup an event to raise money and awareness
for a disease that is very personal to me. My grandmother has Alzheimer's
disease and it has devastatingly affected her mind and body, along
with the rest of my family.
So,
starting June 21st, I will be biking across the
country in an event I am calling Coast to Coast: A Ride to Remember.
The purpose of the ride is to raise money for Alzheimer’s
research and to increase awareness for the disease. I have
teamed up with the Alzheimer's
Association to organize this event and put the
money I raise to great use. Alzheimer's research is on the verge
of discovering means to delay the arrival of the disease and finding
ways to allow people with Alzheimer's disease to lead longer fulfilling
lives independent of assisted care.
This
project will quite possibly receive attention at a national level.
I am looking for donations and/or sponsorship for the event (any
little bit will help). All proceeds will be going directly to the
Alzheimer's Assiocation and be used for researching the disease.
